The casino and hospitability operation owned by Mohegan Tribe has partnered with FanDuel, a renowned daily fantasy sports-cum-sports betting operator for those plans. As per the of the partnership agreement, FanDuel will provide both mobile casino and online sports betting and daily fantasy sports in Connecticut. In addition to that, FanDuel will be operating a retail sportsbook at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.
All this is, of course, subject to regulatory approval. However, things are looking up for the development and local sports fans can look forward to the launch this coming fall. When the sportsbook launches, sports betting fans will be able to place bets on professional football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, and horse racing among others. The online casino experience will also feature the best that the company has to offer.
“Our partnership is a priority for Mohegan Digital, as we look to grow and enhance our casino, sportsbook, and online operations in Connecticut – and beyond. We’re confident that FanDuel will deliver a best-in-class digital and in-person experience for our loyal guests.”
Mohegan Gaming CEO Ray Pineault
It is worth noting that, as it stands, the deal between Mohegan Sun and FanDuel details a temporary FanDuel sportsbook at the latter’s casino. This will feature a total of four betting windows alongside 16 self-service kiosks.
As mentioned earlier, sports betting is almost going live in the state. Still, the activity cannot go live until the United States Department of the Interior is done with approving the existing tribal-state compacts. This means that the earliest we could see sports betting in the state in the fall. It could take up to 135 days from when the Department of Interior receives the pact until when it becomes operational. Hopefully, it does not take that long.
Thankfully, Mohegan is already making plans. The wait will thus not have to be as long since the operator will be ready to go live as soon as they receive the green light. Other operators such as DraftKings are reportedly also eyeing that market.
